Well, well Hello Daddy!
We enjoyed a luxurious 40 minutes on the Skype phone to Joe tonight. This picture was actually taken back in May as are all of my "July" pictures since I have been unable to transfer photos from my phone to the computer (SORE subject, don't ask!) Harvey and Mommy had a GREAT DAY today!!! H slept until 8! I was able to do 20 min. of morning yoga before he woke up. Wheatabix, canteloupe for breakfast, then played with legos and truck. I took him to the pool for a late morning swim and lunch. Then he went right down for his nap at 1 with no protests and slept soundly for two hours while I did some more yoga. It felt so rejuvanating to get sleep AND exercise! My parents came over for dinner and took H out to the park while I cooked a yummy vegetarian dinner: Cabbage Soup sprinkled with fresh grated parmesan, Beet greens sauteed in olive oil garlic and hot pepper, Curried apple couscous from Heidi Swanson's fabulous food blog (Thank you Mary Jane - I have been cooking from it every day!), and cucumber mint salad with feta. For dessert we had Whitney's magic mousse au chocolat with raspberries from our CSA (more on the CSA later)
But the real treat of the day was that we made great strides in the potty training department today after a year of spinning our wheels. I decided a few days ago that we need to make some radical changes in our PT approach if I am going to get this boy out of diapers before he walks down the aisle.
Day 1 (Friday July 10) - I had him sit on potty every 30 minutes. He went pee-pee in the potty once in the morning. The rest of the time he relied on his pull-up. I told him he would get 1 M&M everytime he does #1 in the potty and 2 M&Ms for #2.
Day 2 - Same routine. He went pee-pee in the potty 3 times! He LOVED picking out the color of the M&M reward.
Day 3 (today) - Took his pants and pull-up off and told him that he will just be wearing a T-shirt when he is home and that he will have to use the potty if he had to go. I put the potty in his room while he played. He went #1 seven times today and #2 once and had NO accidents (he did soil his diaper one time when he went for a walk to the park with Grandma and Grandpa)
Tricky part was what to do when we leave the house and/or go to the pool. We opted to do diapers while he still is in training (NOT pull-ups which I am now realizing are just glorified diapers and they are too pretty and convenient - he so doesn't care if he walks around with poop or pee in his pants, OY!) and I am looking into getting reusable swim diapers and training pants. I also bought really plain, boring diapers at Whole Foods which have no pictures or gimmicks.
NEW RULES....
1. No more pants/underwear/diapers/pull-ups, etc to be worn while in the house.
2. Potty chair is placed in the room he is playing in (usually in his room)
3. No more pull-ups - replace with diapers and/or training pants when we have to go out.
Meanwhile, I think we probably could have done this a while ago, but I just haven't been home for a long enough stretch to figure it out. Fingers crossed!
