Here Comes Chicken Little!

Happy Halloween

I had just about given up on getting a costume for Harvey. I wanted him to be a penguin, and couldn't find anything for him at the overpriced costume superstore. Next I went to the fabric store and realized that I wouldhave had to start in August getting all of the stuff together to make it from scratch. Yesterday a friend told me she would try to dig up an old pumpkin costume. A few minutes ago my Halloween Spirit rallied when the Fed-Ex guy came with a package from Aunt Chita and Uncle Peter. When I saw the fluffy white stuff peeking out of the box, I squeeled with delight. It was like opening Christmas presents on Halloween. Harvey was excited too. He was having fun playing with the extra sticky packaging tape! This little chicky can't wait to go trick-or-treating for all of the little old ladies in the building. Thanks Chita and Peter Posted by Picasa

Weaning

Harvey is taking this adjustment like a champ. He's so ready to move on and embrace his independence. He still craves a lot of "snuggle" time which he initiates by jumping into my lap with a book in hand. Mom on the otherhand is definitely feeling the emotional/hormonal turbulence rising up from within. Today marks the 2 week mark of when we commenced the official "weaning" process. It is also the second consecutive day of no nursing. The morning nursing session was the last to go. It was a very sweet family time having our Harvey "sandwich" before breakfast. But now Harvey likes to feed himself oatios and fruit and cheese while enjoying a sippy cup of rice milk instead. It is weird how I can miss my own baby when he is sitting right before my eyes - smiling and laughing as if to say, "I love you Mom! What are you crying about? Oh, and could you please wind up the Jack-In-The-Box again?" Posted by Picasa

Pea in a Pod

This adorable costume is on sale at Red Envelope . Harvey could probably fit into it, but I would have to cut holes in it for him to walk around or he'd most likely have a FIT (no pun intended) trying to squirm out of it. SOOOO cute! I think I might just buy it and save it for the next baby.

You've Come a Long Way Baby Harvey!

New Game

Recently I have been trying to figure out why it is that I can never get anything done. I was in the middle of vacuuming when the machine stopped in the middle of a very important crumb removal mission that I was on. I had just changed the vacuum bag. Had the power failed? I looked up and saw the culprit squatting with intention and resolve with his thumb expertly planted on the vacuum switch. Harvey! No smile or chuckle. Just doing his job of being a toddler. I switched it back on. 5 seconds of crumbs removed. SHHHOOOOM! Power off. Mom switches power on. 2 seconds of power vacuuming. SHHHOOOM! Power off. Mom switches on. Harvey switches off. Mom picks up vacuum cleaner. Harvey cries. Oy! It is going to be one of those days! Posted by Picasa

17 Pounds 13 Ounces, 30 Inches

Head Circumference: 17 7/8 inches

He's such a lightweight! Even with the teddy bear in hand he was still in the "blue region" or just under 5% for weight. Height was 50th percentile. Harvey was a completely different baby at Dr. King's office today. He was playing with the toys, pulling EVERY magazine off of the rack and walking around looking for trouble. At one point, while we were in the examination room he managed to grab hold of the liquid hand soap and was blowing bubbles before we could stop him! This week he was upgraded to a new infant carseat and the pediatrician told us we could go ahead and have him sit facing forward. Wow, Harvey, you are really growing up! Posted by Picasa

A Walk in the Park

One of the great advantages of being a parent is the increased amount of time outdoors. The other day when I took Harvey to the park, he cried when I put him in the swing. I thought it was strange since he loves the swing. I soon realized that what he really wanted to do was try out his new shoes and walk in the grass - a challenging activity for a baby who has now officially reached "toddler" status. He was soon speed walking (not quite running yet) towards every dirt patch and section of pavement. Mom wound up getting plenty of exercise chasing the little ambulator. The funniest was watching him attempt to navigate his way down a little hill. (walk two steps, fall; repeat ad naseum...)Eventually he slowed down and discovered the joy of waving leaves around in the air and he even found a sewer top which gave him at least 4 minutes of exploratory pleasure. Finally he found his way to the fence where he managed to play a game of tug-of-war with mom and her car keys on the other side. Harvey was winning at one point... The best part of all of this? He is now so pooped from all the activity that we've had to push bedtime earlier to 8:30 thus allowing plenty of time to get ready for Desperate Housewives:) Posted by Picasa
