Texan Taxi and Toe Troubles

Harvey was a calm and patient traveller, but his parents were not so lucky.
1. 9:45 to 11:47 A.M. drive from NYC to Philly.
2. 11:48 to 1:45 pack, breast-feed,check email and make the 1:46 R5 Train from St. Davids to 30th Street Station (Philly)
3. Elevator down
4. Elevator up
5. Wait for R1 (52 minutes late)
5. R1 Train from 30th Street to Airport
6. Puddlejumper from Philly to Newark (view of NJ Turnpike from the plane window) "Honey, weren't we just there 6 hours ago?"
7. Shuttle from Terminal A to Terminal C. Moving sidewalks and the miracle of draft beer and 3 elevators get us through security check and all the way to gate 97 (the furthest possible point)
8. Plane from Newark to San Antonio. Harvey is a dream baby. The flight attendant is afraid that he is losing oxygen because he sleeps so soundly.
9. Arrive late at midnight... everyone's asleep.
10. No problem. We'll take a cab.
11. Before Joe can strap in the baby and Laura can get in cab, the driver takes off. Joe yells at driver and Laura screams as cab drives over her toe. Ibrahim, the driver, slams on brakes, causing cab door to smash into Laura's face. Luggage is removed from cab and accident reports filled out with airport police.
12. Sister Genevieve arrives to rescue us.
13. Vacation Begins!....more to come.

Teeth and Hair

The hair is finally coming in--a little swirl on the back that looks like something from a weather map. Little teeth are starting to poke through--upper and lower.

The Ladies who lunch Club

He's not a lady, but his table manners sure are getting better everyday. The cappucino girls at Cream and Sugar in Wayne are getting pretty intimate with Harvey's developmental progress. Today his bottom tooth really made it's "mark" in the world (on mom's breast). I wonder how many moms are out there reading this and thinking, "Oh, so THAT'S why we switched to formula after six months..." I am realizing (sniff!)that the fearless, toothless, blissful days of nursing are numbered. Harvey has a lower incisor with powers to be reckoned with! Tonight we read Where the Wild Things Are and this little guy tried to eat the darned book. Posted by Picasa

Chay Chay Cha-ange!

Posted by PicasaThis baby changes by the hour! I told my mother that Harvey was "dabbling" with sitting up. She informed me that by the end of the week he would be sitting up all the time. Meanwhile, Jan (his babysitter) informed me that he isn't taking well to eating peas. However, there is hope. I read on the Wholesome Homemade Baby Food Website that it takes an infant between 15-21 instances of trying out a (new) food before a true like or dislike is established. "If you are just beginning to introduce solid foods, you really will not be able to determine if your baby has a true dislike for a food until much later."

Hungry Baby

The book he is eating in the photo was sent from Aunt Rosemary in San Antonio. She and Barbara get the award for having more "baby bait" than anyone else I know. These women adore having babies around and have cribs and toys and books and music and just about anything else that could entice infants AND parents to frequent their homes. What a treat!!!!

Meanwhile our little muncher is eating solid foods three times a day. He also goes through 3 bibs and three onesies a day and requires a hose-down after each feeding! The pediatrician told us to introduce one new food every three days or so. So far we (yes, Joe and I are sampling HS's goodies) have had (in chronological order)
Rice Cereal
Pears
Peas
Sweet Potatoes
Bananas
Oatmeal Cereal
Harvey has managed to chew up lots of other paper goods: catalogues, brochures for Fontainebleau, Business Cards and other items that he is able to grab from my clutches. He is very quick and very strong. Fortunately he doesn't cry when I take anything away from him.(YET!) Posted by Picasa

Clowning Around

EVERYTHING goes in the mouth! Yesterday we started to childproof the electrical outlets. I have a feeling that this whole childproofing thing is going to take years. Eventually we will have to "childproof" the carkeys. Posted by Picasa

Yogi Baby

He is concentrating so hard on fighting gravity! It looks as though he is practically in full lotus position. PS Thanks to Daddy for the cool rug. Posted by Picasa

Fast/FWD

Sometimes it feels like someone pressed Fast/Forward on our baby VCR. Overnight it seems that Harvery has not only become an expert crawler (Oy ve! He's on his knees and we're on our toes making sure he doesn't eat dust bunnies and IKEA catalogues), but now has two lower teeth coming in. He can also sit up all by himself. Now if he'd only grow some hair!

Don't Eat the Baby's Food

The pears are now off limits. Harvey loves homemade pearsauce! Pears are tricky. There is a 3-hour window of opportunity before they rot in their own juices. Meanwhile he weighed in on Monday at Dr. King's office:
13 pounds 6 ounces; 26 1/4 inches. His feet are starting to stick out of the edge of the carseat. Dont' grow up too fast my little peanut! Posted by Picasa

Baby's First Food (February 19)

Here he is with Aunt Genevieve and the silver spoon that Aunt Katharine and Uncle Mac brought back from Santa Fe. This was Harvey's third spoonfeeding experience. The parents of this overphotograped baby actually FORGOT the camera AND the videocamera when Harvey took his first bites of organic rice cereal from the Whole Foods. A mother of four laughed out loud when I told her that my baby boy's stomach would NEVER see junk food or artificial blah blah blah. After this meal, we took Harvey to the movies for the first time. He saw Charlie Chaplin's "The Circus". I just hope he didn't get too many ideas lest he start swinging from the chandelier. Posted by Picasa

Please have your Boarding Pass and Identification Ready!

When we booked these flights to Texas, it was too much trouble to dig up the Frequent Flyer Number. Of course when I called up to get credit for the trip, it was lucky that I had the secret code on the Boarding Pass or I wouldn't have gotten the milage credit. It's a good thing that Havey didn't eat the Boarding Pass afterall! Posted by Picasa
